Saunton Golf Club

Almost there....

Guy Fawkes night, the clocks changing back to Greenwich Mean Time and preferred lies, always mark a significant shift in the seasons and a turn in the weather. Now, the evenings arrive early, and the darkness descends. But the excitement of the incoming festive season, provides a twinkling light at the end of the tunnel and something we can look forward to. It is also important, however, to look back and reflect on the Junior Academy’s progress this year, which has been significant.

Many of our junior team have taken part in club competitions and thus experienced the highs and lows of competitive golf and have met with triumph and disaster in equal measure, which I believe is a great learning experience and a valuable part of growing up.

Having won this year’s North Devon Junior League Saunton, six juniors were invited to the Henry Truscott Trophy at Warren GC. Four teams from Devon competed, on a windy, sunny day which provided us with some quick running, classic links conditions. Saunton came second behind Stover Golf Club who scored a mighty 170 points.

Looking forward, on December 14th we are having the Junior Prizegiving, which celebrates all our achievements for 2025 and brings the years events to a close. There will also be a 9-hole competition before the afternoon awards with prizes and surprises, so keep an eye on the app to sign up. It would be great to see you all there.

Thank you to all who have contributed and engaged with the Junior Academy this year; you have made it a huge success. It has been a super season supported by our team of professionals: the greenkeeping and maintenance staff, the chefs, the bar staff and the tireless workings of the administration team.

We are beginning to plan competitions, after school lessons and events for 2026 and we hope we can build on this year’s successes and achievements.
