Ladies

Ladies have been golfing at Saunton Golf Club since 1897 when the female Members of The Pitts-Tucker family were recorded as the first Lady Members of the Club. At that time, the annual subscription was only 10s 6d (52.5p).

The history of the Club also contains other famous names such as Christie; one was a former President of the Club in 1914 and A. L. Christie presented The Christie Necklace in 1921. This beautiful necklace has been played for every year since (apart from during the War Years).

The British Ladies Open Championship was held at Saunton Golf Club in 1932.

Since these early years, our Ladies Section has gone from strength to strength with about 170 active Lady Members at present.

We field teams in the various Devon County competitions, such as: Still Cup, President's Trophy, Sheelah Creasy Bowl and both the Devon and Friendly Leagues.

There is an active Vets Section (for Ladies over 60) that meets for a competition once a month.

Ladies Day is a Tuesday when we have our regular Medal and Stableford competitions. Aside from this, we have plenty of friendly games, as well as Trophy competitions, Opens and a Member Guest Day. There are always lots of opportunities to play golf and socialise.
